API Usage Scanner

A Java utility that scans Java bytecode to detect references to targeted APIs.

Platform requirements

Software:

  • Java™ Run-time Environment (JRE) 1.4 or above
  • Browser: A Web browser that supports EMCAScript (JavaScript) and Cascading Stylesheets Level 2 (CSS2); tested with Internet Explorer 6.x, Mozilla Firefox 1.0.x, and Opera 8.x.

Installation instructions

  1. Preserving the directory structure, extract the contents of the zip file into a local directory.
  2. Ensure that the JAVA_HOME environment variable is set to the location where the JRE is installed. For example:
    • At a Windows® command prompt, type

      set JAVA_HOME=C:\IBM\Java142
      

      and test with

      echo %JAVA_HOME%
      

      in order to to see the value of JAVA_HOME.

    • In a Linux® shell, type

      export JAVA_HOME=/opt/IBMJava142
      

      and test with

      echo $JAVA_HOME
      

      in order to see the value of JAVA_HOME.

  3. Go to the bin subdirectory under your scanner installation directory and invoke the following command:
    • On Windows: aus.bat -help (Windows)
    • On Linux: ./aus.sh -help (Linux)

If the scanner is installed correctly, you will see the Help information.
