1. What databases are supported?

Weblog Preview has been used with Cloudscape and DB2. Other databases that are supported by Workplace should also work, but this issue has not been investigated completely.

2. Will I be able to transfer the data used in this version of Weblog Preview to future versions?

There are currently no plans for enabling the migration of data from this version of Weblog Preview to future versions. In addition, there is no upgrade from the Weblog Preview from WCS/WCS 2.5 to WCS 2.6.

3. What languages are currently supported?

The Weblog Preview for WCS 2.5 and WSE 2.5 currently supports only English.
The Weblog Preview for WCS 2.6 supports the same languages as WCS 2.6.

4. What features are provided?

The following features are provided:
  • posts and comments
  • a blog Roll that can include references to internal and external blogs
  • archiving
  • permalinks for posts and blogs
  • RSS and Atom feeds for syndication
  • a rich text editor for posts
  • full-text search for post/comment content.

5. Can I control who can read my blog?

Yes -- via the membership portlet, just as with any Workplace component. By default, all authenticated users can see and comment on all blogs. You can change this setting so that only specific users, or none at all, can read and comment.

6. Can I install Weblog Preview on operating systems other than Windows and Linux?

Currently, there are installation scripts only for Windows and Linux. The application itself should work on all operating systems supported by Workplace, but this has not been investigated completely.

7. Are there differences between the Weblog Preview for WCS/WSE 2.5 and WCS 2.6?

The Weblog Preview for WCS 2.6
  • supports the same languages as WCS 2.6 (WCS/WSE 2.5 supports only English)
  • supports Atom 1.0 and RSS 2.0 (WCS/WSE 2.5 supports Atom 0.3 and RSS 2.0)
  • includes some bug fixes and UI clean-up.

8. If I upgrade from WCS 2.5 to WCS 2.6 using upgrade scripts, can I install the Weblog Preview?

This action is not currently supported.
