Weblog Preview

A preview of a weblog component for Workplace that enables self-service blog creation, archiving, perma-links, comments, blogrolls, search, and syndication.

Platform requirements

Operating systems:

  • Windows® (the same Windows versions supported by IBM® Workplace™ 2.5, Workplace Services Express, or Workplace Collaboration Services 2.6)
  • Linux® (the same Linux versions supported by IBM Workplace Collaboration Services 2.5, Workplace Services Express 2.5, or Workplace Collaboration Services 2.6)

Hardware and software: the same as those required by IBM Workplace Collaboration Services 2.5, Workplace Services Express 2.5, or Workplace Collaboration Services 2.6.

Installation instructions

On Workplace Collaboration Services 2.5 or Workplace Services Express 2.5:

Note: Please see the screenshots for Steps Nos. 3 and 4.

  1. Unzip the WeblogInstallScripts.zip file below into a temporary directory (such as C:\temp\install).
  2. Run the following command from the temporary directory:
    • For Windows:

      installWeblog -username admin-username -password admin-password -cell cell
      

      -node node -dbname database-type -prodver version
    • For Linux:

      installWeblog -username admin-username -password admin-password -cell cell
      

      -node node -dbname database-type -prodver version -installdir location

    Notes:

    • admin-username is the portal administrator's user name.
    • database-type should be either Cloudscape or DB2.
    • installdir is the installation directory of the Workplace product; for example: /WebSphere.
    • prodver is either "WCS" (for installing on Workplace Collaborative Services) or "WSE" (for installing on Workplace Services Express).
    • In order to uninstall the Weblog Preview: uninstallWeblog -username admin-username -password admin-password -cell cell -node node
  3. Import the blog template into Workplace, as follows:
    1. Log into Workplace as the portal administrator.
    2. Go to Templates by clicking on the Templates menu item at the top of the Workplace screen.
    3. Import the template file PersonalBlog.xml from the template directory that was created when you unziped WeblogInstallScripts.zip. Click on OK to finish.
  4. Set the template roles, as follows:
    1. Log in to WAS Admin.
    2. In the navigation tree, expand Lotus® Workplace, then Users.
    3. In the navigation tree, click on Manage User Policy.
    4. In the right window pane, click on Default User Policy.
    5. Scroll down in the right window pane and click on Allow users to set Workplace template usage to "All Authenticated Users"; then select OK.
    6. Log back into Workplace as portal admin.
    7. Go to Templates, as before.
    8. Find the Personal Weblog template and click on Template Roles for the Personal Blogs template.
    9. Add All Authenticated Users for the Template role "Template User."

On Workplace Collaboration Services 2.6:

Note: Please see the screenshots for Steps Nos. 5, 6 and 7.

  1. Unzip the WeblogInstallScripts2.6.zip file into <LWP>/config/weblog.soln (where <LWP> is the location of the Workplace directory. For example: C:/Workplace/WorkplaceServer).
  2. Indicate your database type:
    1. Edit the file <LWP>/properties/lwpblog.properties.
    2. Change the property value of wpcp.databaseType to either db2, sqlserver, cloudscape, or oracle, depending on your installation.
    3. Save the file.
  3. Start the servers.
  4. Install the blog application category and enable the blog component:
    1. Edit the file <LWP>/config/weblog.soln/ears/weblog.svc/deploy.properties so that the following properties have the indicated values:
      • app.enable=true
      • ejb.jndiname=ejb/com/ibm/workplace/weblog/service/BlogServiceSessionEJBHome
    2. Run the following command from the directory <LWP>/config/weblog.soln:
      • For Windows:

        blogconfig.bat enable-blog  -DWasUserid=admin-username -DWasPassword=admin-password > enable-weblog.log
        
      • For Linux:

        blogconfig.sh enable-blog  -DWasUserid=admin-username -DWasPassword=admin-password > enable-weblog.log
        

      Notes:

      • admin-username is the portal administrator's user name.
      • admin-password is the portal administrator's password.
  5. Import the blog template into Workplace as follows:
    1. Log into Workplace as the portal administrator.
    2. Go to Templates by clicking on the Templates menu item at the top of the Workplace screen.
    3. Import the template file Blog from the <LWP>config/weblog.soln directory. Click on OK to finish.
  6. Set the template roles, as follows:
    1. Log in to WAS Admin.
    2. Expand Lotus Workplace, then Users, in the navigation tree.
    3. Click on Manage User Policy in the navigation tree.
    4. Click on Default User Policy in the righthand window pane.
    5. Scroll down in the righthand window pane and click on Allow users to set Workplace template usage to "All Authenticated Users"; then select OK.
    6. Log back into Workplace as portal admin.
    7. Go to Templates, as before.
    8. Find the Blog template and click on Template Roles for the Blogs template.
    9. Add All Authenticated Users for the Template role Template User.
  7. Activate the blog page as follows:
    1. Log into Workplace as portal admin.
    2. From Portal Administration, Manage Pages, navigate to My Portal, My Work, and then Team Collaboration.
    3. Change the status of the Blogs page to Active.
  8. You must start the LWP_Weblog_Service Ear in WAS admin after starting the server.
