What is CIM Provider Certification Tool?
The Common Information Model (CIM) is an industry-standard way of describing data about applications and devices so that administrators and software management programs can control applications and devices on different platforms in the same way, ensuring interoperability across a network such as the Internet. It was developed by the Distributed Management Task Force (DMTF), which was created to lead the development of management standards for promoting interoperability for enterprise and Internet environments.
CIM Provider Certification Tool facilitates procurement of certified products from global vendors. This facilitation allows one to test CIM providers along with the certification policy through validation procedures, which saves considerable time and expense. Hence, this program is a helpful tool for facilitating the verification of CIM providers and the development of CIM-based applications for storage device management. The CIM must connect to one CIM server with appropriate parameters, and then all the CIM providers loaded by that CIM Object Manager (CIMOM) can be objectively certified via the correct scripts.
CIM Provider Certification Tool contains the following features:
- Interoperability: The certifier tool helps to develop consensus and facilitates interoperability. It can execute some verification scripts according to the compliance specification and conformance requirements with the previously-defined format.
- Intuitiveness: The program acts as a standard CIM client, which is responsible for the communication with the CIM server; it can get responses from CIMOM according to the standard CIM-over-HTTP protocol.
- Flexibility: One can configure the conference data of a CIM server in a configuration file, achieve and maintain certification policy, process address problems during the certification procedure, and store the reports in local file system.
- Debugging: The program naturally assists with debugging: It can report many kinds of exceptions to help developers catch bugs in CIM providers early.
This tool runs on Windows® and Linux®.
How does it work?
The certification tool is written in Java™ and allows users to verify the integrity of CIM providers against a specified policy. It supports a command line interface, by which one can easily open the command line window and type the profile against which one wishes to check.
The only thing one need do is ensure that the CIMOM connection parameters are configured correctly and that the CIMOM has been launched prior to using this tool.
