What is Content Manager Integrator for Workplace Forms?
Replacing paper with electronic documents brings many advantages to a business: faster processing, concurrent access by multiple people, and the possibility of a single system of record with audit trails. We do a good job when dealing with scanned images and computer-generated documents, but integrating electornic forms into the business process continues to present challenges. The IBM® Content Manager Integrator for Workplace Forms™ helps solve some of those challenges.
This Integrator, based on an open XML standard, provides integration between IBM Workplace Forms and IBM DB2® Content Manager. This component extends Workplace Forms and IBM Content Manager, allowing easier management of blank form templates and central storage of completed form instances.
How does it work? The Content Manager Integrator for Workplace Forms includes the following:
- a J2EE™ Web Component that interacts with the Content Manager and Workplace Forms environments
- a client that has been extended to include integration with Workplace Forms. This client provides a user interface into Content Manager for adding and manipulating template forms.
- a sample application that demonstrates use of the Integrator in custom Web applications
- a sample form ready to use with Content Manager 8.3.
When a user submits a form, the Integrator can extract data from the form fields and pass it on to the Content Manager, where it is stored along with an associated attribute. Typically, not every field on the form is transferred, only those that may be needed for searching on later, such as customer name, file number, etc. Completed forms are also stored in Content Manager and can draw upon any standard repository services, such as a workflow service.
