CodeInvaders Challenge

A Java-based game of space conquest, based on the Eclipse platform.

Platform requirements

Operating systems: Windows® 95 or above; Linux®; Macintosh, Solaris

Hardware:

  • Pentium II-600 or equivalent
  • 256 MB of RAM
  • approximately 10 MB of free disk space
  • temporary space for installation
  • 1280 x 1024 display

Software:

  • Java 2 Standard Edition JRE, Version 1.5 or above
  • Eclipse 3.1 or above

Installation instructions

The following is an abbreviated description of how to configure a machine with the game environment. The full documentation can be found in the installation documents within the package. Note: Please ensure that you have installed on your machine a working JRE and a copy of the Eclipse 3.1 (or above) platform.

  1. Download the game zip file.
  2. Unzip the file into the [Eclipse install dir]/eclipse directory, where [Eclipse install dir] is the directory in which Eclipse is installed. This action should create one or more files with names such as [Eclipse install dir]/eclipse/plugins/com.ibm.games*.jar.
  3. Start Eclipse.
  4. Go to File > New > Project....
  5. Select Other > Game Project. Click on Next.
  6. Select CodeInvaders and enter a project name. Click on Finish.
  7. Select Window > Perspective... from the menu.
  8. Select Java from the list and click on OK.

In order to add or remove players and to run a game, double-click on games.xml in the project and use the user interface. For further instructions, please see the full documentation included in the online help under IBM Games.
