What are Comparison Tools for Handwriting Recognizers?
These utilities enable either direct or indirect objective comparison of dynamic handwriting recognizers. Objective technical evaluations can be done only by using matched training and testing data sets. The comparison tools prepare the publicly available UNIPEN data for use within a framework that supports objective comparison.
How does it work?
The user applies the scripts in order to partition and validate the publicly-available UNIPEN online handwritten database. The partitioning allows appropriate direct comparison of two or more recognizers or the indirect comparison of a single recognizer using the described framework.
After preparing the data, the user uses the partitioned data to train and test the handwriting recognizer(s) under evaluation and determine the accuracy of the recognizer for the given conditions.
After training and testing are complete, the results are evaluated against the results of other recognizers within the framework outlined in the following report: "Methods, Report, and Survey for the Comparison of Diverse Isolated Character Recognition Results on the UNIPEN Database: Proceedings of the Seventh International Conference on Document Analysis and Recognition, 2003."
