Update: June 22, 2004

Version 6.0: New features and enhancements include dependency diagrams, performance graphs, customizable object tree, more pop-up menus, additional data in GUI, new alert monitor, and updated look for GUI (see details in users' guide or change history).

What is Replication Monitoring Center for DB2?

Replication Monitoring Center for DB2 is a software tool that supports DB2 replication supervision. It is used atop DB2 DataPropagator, the DB2 UDB data replication feature. The Replication Monitoring Center for DB2 is used to supervise replication scenarios, reporting configuration, and operational data to the user. The tool significantly reduces the time and cost for replication monitoring and operational administration. Replication Monitoring Center for DB2 provides the following features:

  • It collects operational replication and configuration data and presents it in structured views. Actual information can be found and accessed quickly and easy, highly condensed overviews are provided, as well as detailed component data.
  • It supports alert monitoring. Problems are reported immediately when they rise up. Users are notified by e-mail, customized user exit routines, or the application alert window. The DB2 DataPropagator Version 8 Replication Alert Monitor data have been integrated into notification.
  • It can be used to perform operational tasks. Housekeeping tasks and small configuration changes can be done using the tool. It supports tasks such as triggering a full refreshment for data replication; changing replication activation and timing; adding or removing replication events; changing operational parameters for the run-time components Capture, Apply, and the Replication Alert Monitor; and pruning component traces and histories.
  • It supports different DB2 DataPropagator versions, also in parallel. The Replication Monitoring Center for DB2 works with the DataPropagator Versions 5, 6, 7, and 8.

How does it work?

Replication Monitoring Center for DB2 monitors DB2 DataPropagator on various platforms. A wide range of DB2 replication installations can be monitored (z/OS, Windows®, UNIX®, Linux®, and iSeries®). The tool uses JDBC to establish connections to replication control databases where the configuration and operational data is stored by the DB2 replication solution.

Replication Monitoring Center for DB2 supports different run modes: a command line and a graphical user interface (GUI). Although the GUI is the standard mode for active monitoring, the command line interface can be used to run the application as an unattended alert gateway, routing alert information by exits and e-mail to the recipients.

Replication installations using different DB2 DataPropagator versions can be monitored from a single point of control in parallel. Heterogeneous data replication using DB2 Information Integrator and DB2 DataJoiner is also supported.

Replication Monitoring Center for DB2 is highly platform-independent because it is a JavaTM 2 application. InstallShields for various platforms can be provided.
