What is Text User Interface for DB2 UDB Administration?

Text User Interface for DB2 UDB Administration is a lightweight, text-based DBA solution for fast, efficient, and effortless database maintenance, convenient access to critical system information, and simplified use of DB2 support tools. This technology can be used remotely through any terminal emulator for Linux® and UNIX® Platforms.

The database administrator (DBA) need not know DB2 or SQL commands. This technology's utility greatly simplifies the database management tasks such as, but not limited to, table space maintenance and database back-up and restoration.

Traditionally, a DB2 DBA can perform many of these tasks using the Command Line Processor (CLP) or the DB2 Control Center; however, the Text User Interface for DB2 UDB Administration provides a back-door alternative so that the DBA can still execute emergency administrative tasks (for instance, adding or extending containers to a table space from the current location).

How does it work?

The Text User Interface for DB2 UDB Administration runs within many terminal emulators. All that is required is a DB2 V81 or V82 system on a Linux or UNIX (HP, Sun Solaris, and AIX) platform. This technology provides a text-based user interface composed of widgets such as menus, tables, buttons, file viewers, and more by means of an underlying curses library.
