What is Integrated DataPower Management for WebSphere Application Server?

DataPower® SOA (Services-Oriented Architecture) appliances from IBM are purpose-built, easy-to-deploy network appliances that help simplify, secure, and accelerate your XML and Web service deployments while extending your SOA infrastructure. They can perform XML schema validation, XSL Transformations (XSLT), Web service security, transformations between disparate message formats, and more. In summary, it is helpful to run DataPower appliances in conjunction with application servers.

However, the DataPower configuration is performed in a different console than the application server configuration. This plug-in enables the DataPower configuration to be performed inside the same browser window as the application server configuration. An administrator who configures both WebSphere® application servers and DataPower appliances can now do it all in one browser window.

This plug-in, Integrated DataPower Management for WebSphere Application Server, also allows one to track the list of DataPower appliances in one's enterprise, using a centralized, server-based list instead of browser bookmarks and whiteboards. All administrators will see the same list. Connecting to the management console of any DataPower device is done with a simple click.

How does it work?

This software uses plug-in points within the WebSphere Application Server Administrative Console in order to provide additional function, yet it is actually running within the application server console. It is implemented in Java™ using Struts and Tiles, and it is deployable as a WAR archive that plugs in to the WebSphere Application Server Administrative Console.
