What is Eclispe 3.2.0 on HP Itanium?
Eclipse is an open-source community whose projects are focused on building an open development platform comprising extensible frameworks, tools, and run-time environments for building, deploying, and managing software across the life cycle. A large and vibrant system of major technology vendors, innovative start-ups, universities, research institutions, and individuals extend, complement, and support the Eclipse platform.
This technology enables the support of Eclipse 3.2.0 (32-bit) on the HP-UX Itanium™ platform.
How does it work? Eclipse is truly extensible and configurable. It provides multi-language support that unifies Java™ 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE), Web services, UML, C++, and other technologies into a single development environment tailored to specific development needs. Eclipse provides a consistent set of features on most platforms. It simplifies development environment complexity and consolidates the use of diverse development technologies.
Eclipse employs plug-ins in order to provide all of its functionality on top of (and including) the rich client platform, in contrast to some other IDEs in which functionality is typically hard-coded. This plug-in mechanism is a lightweight software componentry framework. In addition to allowing Eclipse to be extended using other programming languages such as C and Python, the plug-in framework allows Eclipse to work with typesetting languages such as LaTeX, networking applications such as Telnet, and database management systems. The plug-in architecture supports the writing of any desired extension to the environment, such as for configuration management. Java and CVS support is provided in the Eclipse SDK.
Eclipse does not include a Java Run-time environment (JRE). Level 1.4.2 or above of JRE or Java Development Kit (JDK) must be installed on the machine in order to run Eclipse.
