What is the Embedded Voice Toolkit Preview?
Embedded Voice Toolkit Preview is an Eclipse-based tool designed to speed development of speech applications on embedded devices.
The toolkit enables developers to use some of their existing skills to build speech-enabled embedded applications in an environment they are familiar with. It provides extensions to IBM's range of tools, such as IBM's WebSphere Studio Device Developer, and helps reduce the complexity of embedded speech application development, potentially opening up the building of embedded speech applications to a wider pool of developers.
How does it work? The Embedded Voice Toolkit allows developers to more easily build embedded speech applications using a graphical user interface (GUI) rather than "command-line" coding. The toolkit provides several key components: A set of Eclipse-based plug-ins generate, manage, and test grammar and custom pronunciations. An integrated development environment, powered by Eclipse, extends WebSphere Studio Device Developer for embedded speech applications. Wizards assist developers in creating applications and artifacts. A Grammar Editor and Compiler for SRCL (Speech Recognition Command Language) creates and maintains custom grammars. An Automatic Grammar Builder helps the developer to build grammar from text files. Pronunciation Tools help create and enhance the way a word is recognized by the speech engine. The toolkit also includes Testing and Analysis for viewing and validating phrases for a vocabulary, as well as the ability to create the image for deployment to the device.
