About the technology author(s)

Leonard Berman joined IBM Research in 1977 after receiving his PhD in Computer Science from Cornell. During his first decade, he worked on applying methods of compiler construction to the design and verification of digital logic; he also served on the staff of the director of Research and spent a year at MIT. In 1988, Dr. Berman received an OIA for his work on global synthesis algorithms. During his second decade, he focused on efficient programming techniques and algorithms for numerical problems, including multipole algorithms for n-body interactions and methods for efficient simulation of financial portfolios. Today, Dr. Berman is a member of the Advanced Internet Publishing group and is focusing on developing methods for automatic and quasi-automatic XML DTD/Schema generation.
