1. What CIMOMs can Generic Provider Controller be used against?

Generic Provider Controller can ideally be used with any standard CIMOM which supports communication in CIMXML. The CIMOM should ideally ensure the OperationStatus of each provider before loading the same. The tool has been thoroughly tested with OpenPegasus and WMI+A from IBM.

2. Can the tool work with remote CIMOMs?

Yes. The tool can very well work with remote CIMOM. Please refer the help message for appropriate details of how to do the same.

3. What functionalities does Generic Provider Controller support?

Generic Provider Controller can disable providers and provider modules, enable providers and provider modules as well as remove them. Additionally, the tool can work with any standard CIMOM and CIMOMs on remote systems as well.

4. The tool on my machine does not work with IP address as 127.0.0.1. Am I missing anything?

This may happen on some machines where local lookup is not set up. It is advised to use the physical IP address of the machine instead of local lookup IP address.

5. Generic Provider Controller does not work on 5988 port for some Linux Systems. What should I do?

On some Linux systems, the default port on which CIMOM listens for CIM queries is not 5988. The other standard ports are 15988, 5989 and 15989. You can try these ports. If that doesn’t work, then you may need to determine the port on which CIMOM is listening. The process of doing this may vary from one CIMOM to another.
