JinsightLive for IBM System z

A tool that provides a dynamic, lightweight Java profiler and visualizer for Linux on System z and z/OS.

Platform requirements

For the visualizer on the workstation:

  • Hardware: minimum 512 MB RAM, 1 GB recommended
  • Operating systems: Windows® 2000, XP; Linux®
  • Software: Java™ run-time environment (1.4.2 or above)

For the tracing environment on System z:

  • Operating systems: z/OS®; Linux on System z® (zLinux)
  • Software: One of the following
    • IBM® 31-bit Java System Development Kit (SDK) for z/OS, Java 2 Technology Edition, Version 1.4.2 or 5
    • IBM 31-bit Java SDK for zLinux, Java 2 Technology Edition, Version 1.4.2 or 5.

For JinsightLive for IBM System z Enhanced Agent: The base JinsightLive for IBM System z must be installed first.

Usage Restrictions

  • This release of JinsightLive for IBM System z does not support profiling of applications running in a 64-bit Java SDK or Java 6 SDK on either z/OS or zLinux.
  • The JinsightLive profiling agent cannot be active in a JVM that has monitoring code using the same JVM Profiling Interface (JVMPI).
  • Profiling sessions are limited to the 120-minute interval following JVM initialization. After this interval, the JVM will continue to run; however, profiling cannot be done. A restart of the JVM will be required if the profiling session exceeds 120 minutes.
