About the technology author(s)

Brian Watt and Phil Estes are developers with the Java Development organization located in Austin, Texas. This organization, in coordination with the IBM Centre for Java Technology in Hursley, UK, creates ports of Sun's Java programming environment for operating systems such as OS/2, Windows, AIX, and now Linux.

Mr. Watt is a senior software engineer and certified technical trainer, and he received a BSME from Cornell University in days of old. In his spare time, Mr. Watt moonlights as an adjunct faculty member at Austin Community College, teaching Java to the technically less fortunate. He and his wife Kathy have several children.

Mr. Estes received a Master of Science degree in Software Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in December of 1998. Outside of finding new operating systems to which IBM can port its high-performance Java technology, Mr. Estes enjoys spending time with his wife, Margaret, and daughter Annaliese.
