What are Lotus Translation Components?
The Lotus Translation Components (LTC) are a set of programming objects and server-based software services that allow the secure, scalable, and interactive integration of the WebSphere Translation Server (WTS) into Domino, Sametime, and WebSphere applications.
How does it work? The Lotus Translation Components consist of two major elements, which together provide a connection to a Translation Connector:
- The Domino Translation Object (DTO), which is an API enabling communication between the Notes or Domino application and the translation services. For convenience, this object can be accessed via three programming interfaces: a LotusScript extension, a JavaTM API, and a C++/C API (one class only).
The main DTO classes are as follows: TransObj, which contains all the base-level features for Machine Translation; LiteTransObj, a low-profile version of TransObj suitable for use in an applet or mobile device; and NotesTransObj, which provides additional functionality based on Notes classes. A C++/C version of LiteTransObj (CLiteTransObj) is also provided.
LTC also provides Java APIs enabling Human Translation (HT) and Translation Memory (TM) support from Notes and Java applications.
All these APIs are described in detail in the included manual.
- The Translation Services Gateway (TSG), which acts as a center point for coordinating translation services, provides filters between document formats and the formats supported by the MT engines and allows connection to third-party services and Translation Connectors. The TSG supports the Linguistic Services API developed by Lotus software to interface between connectors and their services.
In addition, the Lotus Translation Components include the following:
- The LTC Web Administrator, accessible from a browser, allows viewing and changing of configuration settings, and restarting or halting of the TSG when necessary. See the "LTC Web Administrator" and "Starting and configuring the TSG" topics in the LTC User Guide.
- The LTC statistics database is a Notes Release 5 database application accessible from the Web Administrator. It can gather statistics from vendor translation engines, providing information about the numbers of words or documents translated, language usage, user numbers, and so on.
