What is Policy-Based Data Management Tool?
Policy-Based Data Management Tool is a tool that allows non-IT experts to define and manage data management and administration policies at the level of business objects. The policies regarding access control for data, record retention (archival of data, exporting/importing of data, deletion/insertion/modification of data), and transmission of data between systems are supported by the framework. The tool currently showcases archival and notification policies.
How does it work? Policy-Based Data Management Tool comes with two user interfaces, one for business object definition and the other for policy definition. The business object definition GUI is used by a domain expert who understands the underlying data and entities and abstracts attributes and methods out of data entities. The policy definition GUI very closely approaches that of one based on natural language; it can be used by any person for defining policies, without any knowledge about the idiosyncrasies of the database domain. It automatically detects the conflicts, if any, between polices while defining them.
The tool automatically ensures the accurate and timely execution of the business policies as and when the situation arises (based on events, such as database events, transactional events, external events, and temporal events). If the policy demands it, the policy execution engine can even intelligently defer the execution of the policy to a more opportune moment.
