Operating systems: Windows® 2000, Windows XP, or Windows Server 2003

Hardware:

• UP or SMP x86 system
• P6-type processor or newer, single/dual core, with or without HyperThreading
• network connectivity for downloading symbols.

Installation instructions

Warnings:

• Do not install the tools to a network drive or to a SUBSTituted drive.
• The device driver (PERFDD) does not support Power Management (PM). Disable PM before installing the tools. Running with the tools installed (PERFDD loaded), even if you are not using the tools, can cause blue screens on laptops coming out of standby or hibernation. If you must run the tools on a laptop, it is suggested that you remove the device driver when you are finished and then reboot the machine.

The installation instructions assume that the tools will be installed in the c:\ibmperf directory, but you can install them on any drive and directory you want, as long as you respect the first warning above. Substitute your installation directory for c:\ibmperf in the commands that follow.

1. If you are upgrading to a new tools package, follow these steps (if not, skip to Step 2 below):
   • Uninstall your current tools using the current tools. It is very important that you uninstall using the same tools you used to install.

     cd /d c:\ibmperf ddr

   • Rename the directory where your current tools reside, as follows:

     rename c:\ibmperf ibmperf-old-tools

   • Reboot the machine. Continue at Step 2 after the reboot is completed.
2. Make a tools directory, as follows: mkdir c:\ibmperf
3. Download win32_pi-v060727.zip to the tools directory.
4. Change to the tools directory and decompress, as follows:

   cd /d c:\ibmperf unzip win32_pi-v060727.zip

5. Install the package by running the tinstall command: tinstall

If you upgraded to a new tools package, and tinstall was completed successfully, you can now delete the directory where the old tools reside, as follows:

rmdir /s c:\ibmperf-old-tools

In order to run TPROF, enter the following:

cd /d c:\ibmperf\bin
run.tprof

In order to run ITRACE, enter the following:

cd /d c:\ibmperf\bin
run.itrace
