IBM Pattern Modeling and Analysis Tool for Java Garbage Collector

A tool that parses verbose GC trace, analyzes Java heap usage, and recommends key configurations based on pattern modeling of Java heap usage.

Platform requirements

Operating system: Java™ 2 Platform, Standard Edition
Hardware: Memory larger than the verbose GC trace size
Software:

  • Java Run-time Environment 1.4.2 or above
  • Log files with verbose:gc or Xverbosegc enabled on IBM® JVM 1.3.x,1.4.x and 5.0; Solaris JVM 1.4.1/1.4.2/5.0; or HP-UX JVM 1.4.1/1.4.2/5.0.

Installation instructions

  1. Unzip gaNNN.zip (NNN is the version number).
  2. Unzip readmeNNN.zip and read the readme file.
  3. Run gaNNN.jar with the Java Run-time Environment.

The following is an example of processing a verbose GC trace with PMAT Version 1.0.1 and about 500 MB of Java heap size:

<Java Runtime Environment path>java -Xmx500m -jar ga101.jar
