Installation instructions

Client set-up

  1. Make sure you have all the prerequisites (listed above).
  2. Download and run ptdv_4.2.1_win32_setup.exe. All necessary files will be installed onto your client, including JTOpen.

Upgrading from a previous version

The installer will allow you to update an existing version of the PTDV client. If you encounter problems with the update, try uninstalling the old version (through Add/Remove Programs in the Windows Control Panel) and running the new installer again.

When connecting in Thin Client or Three Tier mode, PTDV must be running on the server. If the server is not installed or is out of date, the client will allow you to install or upgrade the server code automatically. Similarly, if you connect to a server that has a newer version of PTDV, the client can be automatically updated.

Running PTDV

After PTDV has been installed on your client, it can be invoked through the Windows Start menu: Start > Programs > iDoctor for iSeries > PTDV.

The PTDV server will be started automatically by the client, if needed.

Generating PEX Definitions

You must create a PEX definition to use with PTDV. For information about PEX definitions and PEX events (including the creation of definitions) for use with PTDV, please refer to the documentation installed with PTDV in the section entitled "Creating PEX Definitions."
