Update: October 7, 2004 New version runs on PocketPC apart from Desktops and supports relocation across devices such as PocketPC and Desktop. It includes a new demo depicting cross-device stateful relocation of applications.

1. Where can I get SMF?

It is available as a downloadable update from IBM Websphere Studio Device Developer (WSDD) 5.7.1. An evaluation copy of WSDD is also downloadable. Please refer to Appendix 1 of ReSMF V0.9.1 - Install Guide.pdf to find out how to obtain SMF updates in WSDD.

2. Who is the target audience for ReSMF?

The target audience for this technology is the ISVs and developers who are developing lightweight applications with SMF and want their applications

  • to be receptive and responsive to the events occurring in their local as well as global environment
  • to have better availability and scalability.

3. Does ReSMF runs on all platforms that are supported by IBM Service Management Framework?

No; the current release of ReSMF has been tested to run "only" on the configuration outlined in the Requirements section.

4. How do I set up an ReSMF environment?

To set up an ReSMF environment, install the MoSeF Node on one or more systems as described in the ReSMF Installation Guide. Note that at least one MoSeF node should be installed with the registry running locally and all other MoSeF nodes pointing to this registry.

5. What could be the reason for getting the error message "Duplicate MoSeF instance attempted" upon starting the MoSeF bundle?

This message will be thrown when more than one instance of MoSeF is started on the same node.

6. What could be the reason for getting the message "failed to register The MoSeF framework" upon starting the MoSeF bundle?

This message will be thrown when the MoSeF fails to locate the registry. The reason for the failure could be either that the registry is not yet started or that there is some network failure.

7. What is the basic unit of work in ReSMF?

The basic unit of work in ReSMF is a relocatable service. A relocatable service is packaged and deployed as an SMF Bundle conforming to the programming model described in the ReSMF Programming Guide.

8. How can I administer the ReSMF environment?

ReSMF includes a MoSeF Administration Console that helps administrators manage all MoSeF Nodes that constitute the ReSMF environment. In the current release of MoSeF Administration Console, administrators can manage a MoSeF domain at a time. Through the console, administrators can manage the life cycle of the services installed on different MoSeF nodes of the MoSeF domain. Besides life cycle management of installed services, the administration console also enables to users to perform user-initiated actions on the services.
