Platform requirements for Structural Analysis for Java
Processor:
- Pentium® III-class processor at 500MHz; Pentium III-class processor at 1 GHz or above recommended
- Performance during Java code-model synchronization is significantly impaired when performed on a system with a hard disk drive formatted using the FAT32 file system. NTFS is highly recommended.
RAM: 256 MB minimum. 512 MB recommended
Disk space: Minimum: 100 MB minimum for installation drive. 200 MB recommended for workspace
Screen resolution: Minimum: 800 x 600 pixels, 256 colors. Recommended: 1024 x 768 pixels, 16-bit color or above
Mouse/pointing device: Any pointing device with at least two buttons
Operating systems:
- Windows 2000 Professional, Service Pack 2, 3, or 4
- Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 1
- Windows NT, Service Pack 6a with SRP

Notes:
- Structural Analysis for Java cannot be installed into a path that includes double-byte or extended characters.
- This release does not support Eclipse 2.1.
- This release does not support IBM WebSphere Studio Site Developer or IBM WebSphere Studio Device Developer.

- Internet Explorer 6 without any service pack or with SP1

Installation instructions for Structural Analysis for Java
Run the appropriate set-up executable (please also be sure to choose the appropriate installer for your system):
- Windows: StructuralAnalysisForJava_WindowsSetup.exe (installs SA4J into C:/Program Files/Structural Analysis for Java)
- Linux: StructuralAnalysisForJava_LinuxSetup.bin (installs SA4J into /opt/Structural Analysis for Java)
- Solaris: StructuralAnalysisForJava_SolarisSetup.bin (installs SA4J into /opt/Structural Analysis for Java)
SA4J installs the Java Run-time Environment (JRE) 1.4.1_01 into [installation directory]\_jvm.
Installation issues:
- IBM recommends temporarily disabling the active scanning feature of your anti-virus software prior to installation. (Defect 223368).
- SA4J will not work properly if it is installed into a folder on a shared network. Use a local drive instead. (Defect 447036).
- SA4J cannot be installed into a path that includes double-byte or extended characters. (Defects 240169, 240232, 240590).
