Platform requirements
Operating systems: Any Windows® system that runs Eclipse
Software:
- Eclipse 3.2. Task Modeler Version 6 will not run in Eclipse 2.1 or 3.1. A new Eclipse environment suitable for Task Modeler can be installed using the Task Modeler installer.
- IBM® Java™ Run-time Environment (JRE) 1.4.1 or above (automatically installed and referenced).
Installation instructions
Task Modeler uses an InstallShield installer. InstallShield either installs Task Modeler into an existing Eclipse Version 3.2 environment or installs a new Eclipse 3.2.1 environment containing Task Modeler.
Upgrading to the new version
- Uninstall your current version of Task Modeler as follows (this will not remove your Eclipse workspace or any existing files created in Task Modeler):
- Go to the Windows Start menu, under Programs > IBM Task Modeler 5 > Uninstall.
- On the second page of the wizard, take note of the current installation location for Task Modeler.
- Follow the Uninstall wizard until the uninstallation is completed. Click on the Finish button in order to close the wizard.
- Install the new version of Task Modeler using the installation instructions below. Please ensure that you select the same installation location as for your previous Task Modeler installation. Installing in the same location will ensure that the new version uses the same workspace and has easy access to files already created with Task Modeler.
Installing Task Modeler (if it is currently not installed)
- If you are installing into an existing Eclipse environment, please ensure it is closed.
- Run Setup_TaskModeler6.exe. In the wizard, specify either the existing Eclipse environment in which to install Task Modeler or that a new Eclipse environment should be installed.
- Start the Eclipse environment (containing Task Modeler) via the Start menu at Programs > Task Modeler 6 > Task Modeler.
- In Eclipse, switch to either the Task Modeling or DITA Modeling perspective via Window > Open Perspective > Other....
- Create task models or DITA maps via the File > New menu.
For further information on using Task Modeler, please see the Task Modeler User Guide in Eclipse (Help > Help Contents; then select Task Modeler User Guide in the left hand navigation). For further details about the new features in Version 6, see the "What's new in Version 6" document in the user guide.
