 | There are many various uses for groups and social gatherings. Here are some ideas:
- creation and sharing of notes during conferences and meeting
- collaborative decision making
- a structured blog, because highlights can have entries, tags, and (soon) comments
- a private note-taking application
- mashups.
| | |
 | The main differences are as follows:
- The order of the highlights is not necessarily chronological.
- IBM Web Highlights provides the power of digging, that is, voting, for each highlight and its entries and comments.
- Highlights include entries that can be contributed to all users.
- Highlights and entries can be independently tagged and rated (or dug).
- Collaborative summaries of highlights can be emailed and fed as RSS or Atom.

 | The IBM Web Highlights extension for Firefox is a handy addition that makes using IBM Web Highlights easy. Following are some quick instructions:
- Download and install the plug-in by clicking on the Install now button. (Normally Firefox prompts you to install it; if it doesn't, then download it and use File > Open on the file menu.)
- Go to Add-ons and click on the ffHighlightr preferences button.
- Update the api_key you received from the mail from the IBM Web Highlights Web site.
Whenever you want to highlight text in a Web page, simply select, right-click, and choose Send to IBM Web Highlights. Fill in the tags if you want, and then click on OK. Your highlights should then appear in the IBM Web Highlights site on the alphaWorks® Services site.
