Deployment and Update Tools for xSeries Servers has graduated.
Components of this technology have been incorporated into products. The wflash and lflash utilities and the Advanced Settings Utility (ASU) are part of the firmware update for xSeries, BladeCenter, and Intellistation boxes. All x86 and x86_64 xSeries systems, eserver 32x, and BladeCenter systems from last year on are supported by the flash utilities for BIOS, Diags, and SP.
The wflash and lflash utilities are included in Windows Update packages and Linux Update packages, such as the following x336 update packages:
Advanced Settings Utility (ASU) is working on all BMC but is not generally available yet. ASU RSA has always been supported. ASU BIOS for the same systems is supported and/or in test. ASU is a common utility, but BIOS specific .def files must be downloaded.

| | About the technology author(s): Jason Almeida is a developer on the IBM e-server xSeries Engineering Software team in Research Triangle Park, NC. In 1999, he graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a background in theoretical computer science and joined IBM; his first IBM work was on Intel x86 SMP POST/BIOS. Finding a vacuum in traditional engineering software, Mr. Almeida focused on solving real-world problems of system deployment and management as they relate to system firmware. His goal is to provide innovative solutions to customers in engineering software.
